Municipal Elections

The Town of Okotoks is recruiting election workers to work Election Day on Monday, October 20, 2025  for the following shifts:

• Voting shifts: 9:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
• Manual ballot counting shifts: Starting at the close of voting at 8:30 p.m. until counting is complete.

 All positions are paid at a rate of $30/hour.

note: partial shifts may be assigned.

Eligibility:

You can be an election worker if you are:

• 18 years of age or older, and
• Eligible to work in Canada

note: you do not have to be a Canadian citizen to apply.

Qualifications:

• For all positions, previous election experience will be considered an asset.
• You must be available to attend the mandatory training session on Monday, Oct. 6, 2025, from 9-11 a.m.
• Ability to perform repetitive tasks and work long hours.
• Must be physically able to sit for potentially long periods and lift supplies weighing up to 30lbs (13kg).
• Strong customer service skills and the ability to deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
   

Voting Station Positions

Voting Station workers may be assigned to any of the following positions below and may be rotated throughout the day as needed. 

Voting Station Greeters

• Greet voters entering the voting station, aid voters who request it and inform voters of identification requirements
• Direct voters to appropriate station
• Monitor and assess activity in and around the voting station
• Refer all media, candidates, official agents, scrutineers or other visitors to the Voting Station Officer

Voter Assistance

• Ask voters for their identification
• Assist voters with completion of forms
• Issue the correct ballot types and initial the top of the ballots
• Instruct voters how to vote and fold completed ballots, then direct them to the voting booths
• Handle and process spoiled ballots

Ballot Box Assistance

• Receive completed ballots from electors
• Deposit voted ballots in corresponding ballot boxes while voter watches

Counting Ballots

• Assist with the count of ballots
• Assist with completion of required forms
• Participate in voting station cleanup
• Seal ballots and forms in appropriate packages
• Other related duties, as required

The legislation under Part 5.1 of the Local Authorities Election Act requires candidates to prepare and file with the municipality a disclosure statement in the prescribed form by March 1 following a general election unless they are specifically exempted under the self-funded campaign provisions.
