Okotoks Municipal Enforcement recently stopped a driver travelling 141 kilometres per hour in an 80 km/h zone while carrying a vehicle full of young passengers. The stop occurred during the lunch hour on Wednesday, Oct. 28, on 338 Avenue, between Northridge Drive and 32 Street.
The driver faces $1,200 in fines and a licence suspension after travelling 61 km/h over the speed limit.
“Travelling at this rate of speed in an 80 km/h zone puts the driver, passengers and other road users at risk,” said Vik Kulkarni, Okotoks Municipal Enforcement manager. “One moment of poor judgment can have lifelong consequences. These stops are about preventing those outcomes and keeping people in our community safe.”
Excessive speed significantly reduces the driver’s ability to react to unexpected hazards and increases the potential severity of a collision. Carrying passengers brings an added responsibility, and drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits and make responsible choices behind the wheel.
Traffic safety remains a top community priority, with Municipal Enforcement continuing to actively monitor Okotoks roads and respond to dangerous driving.
