Spring has officially arrived, and that means it’s time to clear the winter grit from our roads. Our annual street sweeping program starts at midnight on Sunday, April 12th, to keep our community clean, safe, and looking its best. We will start with Priority 1 routes, then Priority 2, and then move into residential.
When is Your Street Being Swept?
We use three ways to main ways to communicate the sweeping schedule:
- Signage: Watch for "Street Sweeping" signs placed at the main intersections of residential areas. These will be posted in your area before crews arrive in your neighbourhood.
- Online Map: Find upcoming parking bans, our dedicated sweeping map and learn about how street cleaning is prioritized on the Street Sweeping Page
- Social & Local Media: Follow us on Facebook, Instagram, and X (Twitter) for updates. We also work with local media to announce upcoming parking bans.
How You Can Help
Help us achieve that "glorious" clean by preparing your curb:
- Clear the Gutter: Remove driveway ramps, basketball hoops, and any other obstructions from the roadway.
- Sweep the Extras: You can sweep gravel off your sidewalk and driveway into the gutter before the sweepers arrive, but please make sure there are NO piles.
- Move Your Vehicle: Ensure your car is parked in your driveway or an alleyway on your scheduled day.
When you see those signs in your area, please make sure all vehicles are moved off the street. A clear road allows our operators to clean the curb line thoroughly and safely. Vehicles left on the street prevent the sweepers from doing their job and may be subject to a parking fine or towing. Reminder, there is no need to move cars, unless you see parking ban signs posted in the area. Residents are also encouraged to visit okotoks.ca/parking-bans and the Town’s social media channels for the latest updates regarding parking bans and maintenance routes.
Did We Miss a Spot?
During the initial spring push, crews collect the bulk of the debris. However, if you notice significant gravel remaining after the spring clean-up is complete, remember that our sweepers operate year-round. You can easily notify us by visiting our Report It! Page.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our streets clean!
