Light Up Okotoks is back for its 33rd year of kicking off the holiday season in the spirit of joy, community and connection! Winner of the 2025 Canadian Event Award for "Best Event for a City or Municipality," and voted GOLD in the Best of the Foothills People’s Choice awards for more than 6 years running, this event draws up to 20,000 people to Okotoks.
Road Closures: From 3:00 to 10:30 p.m.
- Elizabeth Street, McRae Street, and North Railway Street from Northridge Drive to Lineham Avenue
- Riverside Drive and South Railway Street from Riverside Gate to Lineham Avenue
- Staff will also be stationed at the Veterans Way and Mountain Street intersection to allow local traffic only, helping prevent congestion and bottlenecks on Elma Street.
Shuttle Service
Light Up brings thousands of residents and visitors into the downtown core! Parking is very limited, so we encourage event goers to use the free shuttle service sponsored by Southland Transportation, which will run continuously from both The Okotoks Recreation Centre and the Viking Rental Centre (previously Foothills Centennial Centre - #4, 204 Community Way) to the event zone. Shuttle service will run from 5:00 to 10:20 p.m.
Okotoks Transit
Another great way to avoid the parking stress is to take Okotoks Transit to Light Up! Fixed-route service will end at 3 p.m. on Nov. 21 when road closures begin, and after 3 p.m., both transit vans will switch to on-demand service for the remainder of the evening. Learn more and book online at okotoks.ca/transit.
Safety Wristband Stations
A child ID wristband can help us reunite a lost child with their guardian in minutes! Look for the Safety Band Stations throughout the event zone where you can write your contact information on a red wristband and put it on your child. Stations will be located at each end of the event zone, at the ALC Plaza and the Okotoks Command Trailer (located beside the Municipal Centre).
Charitable Giving Opportunities
Help the RCMP fill their police cruiser with donations and non-perishable food items for the Okotoks Food Bank this holiday season! Watch for the cruiser parked along the corner of Veterans Way and McRae Street. There will be donation bins located at the wristband stations as well. Additionally, the Christmas Charity Truck will be on site, collecting funds and toys in support of local children's charities and will be located beside the Landmark Site (OKOTOKS letters).
