Due to conservation efforts by Okotoks residents and businesses, the Town has been able to maintain regular water levels despite the heat waves experienced throughout Western Canada.
The Town reminds Okotokians that the outdoor watering schedule still applies, especially during the heatwave, as the amount of water lost to evaporation increases with the heat, leading to unusually high outdoor water uses that stresses the Town’s water system’s ability to meet the high level of demand.
Should demand increase, the Town will raise restrictions to ensure reservoirs are replenished during non-watering days.
The Town is requesting that residents practice wise water use. If there is rainfall in the area, reduce outdoor watering. If everyone in the Town of Okotoks does just a little bit, then the cumulative results are huge. Focus your watering effort on your trees and gardens rather than lawns.
Residents are encouraged to pay close attention to alerts on the outdoor watering schedule levels/stages. Currently, the stage is at Green – Summer, where careful use of water is necessary. Outdoor watering schedule:
- Odd number houses – Thursdays from 6:00-9:00 a.m. and 7:00-11:00 p.m.
- Even number houses – Saturdays from 6:00-9:00 a.m. and 7:00-11:00 p.m.
