Warm temperatures have made a return, which means all Town outdoor ice rinks are closed.
Our crews will work to reopen rinks as conditions and resources allow, but in the meantime, please stay off the ice and follow all posted signage and barricades to help keep our community rinks in good shape. If you notice damage to the ice, please give our parks crew a call at 403-938-8958.
A few key reminders:
- Please stay off rinks that are signed and barricaded as they aren't quite ready for use! Using the rinks before they are ready damages the ice during the natural ice-building process and leads to repair time that delays the opening.
- We are always looking for volunteers to help with maintenance of the outdoor rinks. If you are interested in helping throughout the season head over to our volunteer page.
- Storm ponds are never safe to venture out on and are not for recreational use. There is a real danger of falling through the ice—while ice may appear normal on the surface, it is melting from below due to continually moving water and runoff of road salts into the pond, which means ice is thinner and weaker. Changing weather conditions also compromise the ice, which can significantly reduce its thickness. Learn more about storm pond safety.
