OKOTOKS, AB: The Town invites residents to participate in the Resilient Okotoks Climate Action Plan (CAP) survey to prioritize the implementation of concrete actions aimed at achieving Carbon Neutrality by 2050. This goal was approved by council in 2018 as part of the Environmental Master Plan.
Carbon neutral means that the Town will need to reduce carbon emissions while increasing carbon storage through a number of initiatives over the next 30 years. Since implementing the actions all at once is costly, residents can choose which actions should be initiated now and which ones can wait until later.
The Resilient Okotoks CAP survey includes both adaptation actions to increase the community’s ability to live with the effects of a changing climate and mitigation actions to limit activities that contribute to climate change.
All the proposed actions were identified through previous public engagement activities that were incorporated into the Environmental Master Plan, Greenhouse Gas Baseline Report, Climate Resilience Express Action Plan and the Municipal Development Plan. The survey will close on Friday, December 4.
