Howard Park is gearing up for an exciting transformation over the next few years with dynamic additions to our community’s recreational offerings. Approved for 2024, a state-of-the-art skateboard park is set to be constructed, providing a thrilling space for skateboard enthusiasts of all skill levels. The new skate park will replace the old playground, which has reached the end of its life.
“We’re excited to embark on this project to further enhance the recreational amenities available at Howard Park,” says the Town’s parks manager, Rod March. “The old playground has served us well, but it's time to usher in a new era of recreational amenities that promote an active and healthy lifestyle for all residents.”
Feedback from community engagement, including an open house held on February 6, indicated a strong desire to retain the playground at Howard Park. The Town was successful in receiving a grant from the federal Enabling Accessibility Fund for $100,000 towards adding an inclusive and accessible playground for Howard Park and will seek Council approval later this year. If approved, a new playground may be added to the site in 2025.
This proposed initiative aligns with the Council's strategic direction to Enhance Culture & Community Health, and aims to create a vibrant, safe, and inclusive play space that caters to individuals of all ages and abilities. The Town remains committed to providing progress updates and looks forward to offering new recreational opportunities for our community.
