Okotoks, AB: Okotoks Town Council proclaimed May 9-13, 2022 as Economic Development Week in Okotoks at their regular Council meeting April 25. This aligns with the International Economic Development Council and Economic Developers of Alberta (EDA) organizations who have recognized this annual week since 2016. Okotoks will be listed on the EDA website as a supporter of the initiative.
This week helps to recognize and promote the importance of economic development and the vital role it has in maintaining economic well-being in our community. Economic development is fundamental as it helps to create, retain, and expand jobs that facilitate growth, enhance wealth, provide a stable tax base and foster an inclusive economy. It is also collaborative by involving industry, government and a variety of community stakeholders.
Okotoks has a vibrant, prosperous, innovative economy; the Town is committed to supporting economic development that promotes prosperity, economic security and employment. This improves health, well-being, learning and sustainability while building community resiliency.
It is important to recognize and celebrate economic developers as they work to attract and retain high-quality jobs, develop vibrant communities and improve the quality of life in their regions. In 2022, Economic Development Week has become even more important as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect businesses and the economy. Economic developers' work is critical to community recovery.
