Our community has been named the most livable community in Alberta in The Globe and Mail’s third annual Canada’s Most Livable Cities ranking. Outperforming every other municipality in the province, placing sixth among medium-sized cities and 29th overall nationwide.

“This recognition reflects what residents already know, Okotoks is a great place to live." said Mayor Tanya Thorn, "I’m incredibly proud of our residents and everyone who helps make Okotoks such a welcoming place to call home."

This annual ranking assessed 454 cities using nearly 60 indicators across 10 categories that reflect what truly makes a place great to live. These include health care, safety, housing, education, community amenities, transportation, economic factors and climate resilience. Rather than focusing solely on housing prices or real estate trends, the methodology takes a more holistic look at day-to-day livability.

Okotoks ranks the highest out of Albertan municipalities, moving up 24 spots since The Globe and Mail's last edition in 2025.

New this year, the ranking also introduced a population-size comparison, allowing cities to be evaluated alongside others of similar scale. This creates a more meaningful and fair assessment by recognizing that livability looks different across small, mid-sized, and large communities.
