Beat the heat with new hydrant water fountains in downtown Okotoks

To give residents and visitors easy access to drinking water this summer, the Town of Okotoks has installed two water fountains in our downtown event zone, set to be ready for use on June 13. The fountains are attached to a fire hydrant and will provide a sustainable and convenient water source for both humans and dogs, eliminating the need for single-use plastic water bottles.

“These portable fountains attach to fire hydrants, are fully accessible and provide the same safe, reliable drinking water that comes out of our taps,” says Davey Robertson, water manager at Town of Okotoks. “Their efficient design means that they can be quickly disassembled with no impact on fire response.”

One fountain will be located at the corner of Veterans Way and Elizabeth Street and the other will be situated in front of Heartland Café. These fountains will remain in place throughout our summer event season with removal slated for September. Each fountain is designed with both human and dog-friendly capabilities, ensuring that everyone, including our furry friends, stays hydrated.

The fountains will stay covered until the provincial labs confirm the water samples have passed all required tests. “Once we receive the all-clear from Alberta Health Services (AHS), we will remove the covers, flush the fountains, and have them ready for use,” says Robertson.

While in operation, the fountains will be regularly sanitized and tested to ensure compliance with AHS guidelines.
