It's our halfway point for this year's Sheep River Artist in Residence!
During her residency, Wanru will develop a series of artworks that reflect Okotoks’ unique landscapes. Making her home in Okotoks, Wanru was born in China. She has a degree in photography and began painting when she was young under her father’s guidance. She has exhibited in galleries in Calgary, United States, Vancouver, and at the Okotoks Art Gallery. She was part of the 2023 RBC Emerging Visual Artists Program and her works are included in private collections around the globe.
The Okotoks Arts Council, Okotoks Public Library, and the Town of Okotoks launched the inaugural Sheep River Artist in Residence in the spring of 2023. The program invited artists of any field to apply for the chance to be the artist in residence in Okotoks, Alberta. The program was developed to support and encourage established or emerging artists, while enriching the community with art. The program is produced in partnership with the Okotoks Arts Council, the Okotoks Public Library and the Town of Okotoks.
