Join Kathy Coutts from the Okotoks Museum and Archives and one of the conservation educators from the Sustainability team for a FREE Earth Hour related tour of historic downtown Okotoks. Learn the history of Okotoks as well as some of the environmental initiatives underway in town.
Meet at the Okotoks Museum and Archives at 49 North Railway Street.
To participate, turn-off all lights from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Did you know: if everyone in Okotoks turned their lights off for one hour we could save 13,440 kW h of electricity.  That's enough to power 18 homes in Okotoks for an entire month! And it takes 7.5 tonnes of emissions out of the air - that's about equal to what one home produces for an entire year or a gasoline powered vehicle being driven for 1.6 years!
Let's all do our part to turn off all our lights for earth hour!
Ideas for what to do during Earth Hour:
- Play a board game by candle light
- Go for a walk
- Tell stories around the campfire in your yard
Thank you for participating!
Â
Over the years, the lights-off moment saw entire streets, buildings, landmarks, and city skylines go dark - an unmissable sight that drew public attention to nature loss and the climate crisis.Â
This year - amidst the current global circumstances - we [Earth Hour]Â invite you to raise awareness and create the same unmissable sight online, so that the world sees our planet, the issues we face, and our place within it, in a new light.
