NatureLynx is about fun, about getting involved in the scientific process, and about helping to improve our collective understanding of Alberta’s amazing biodiversity. It is a citizen science app created and supported by the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) with the goal of fostering an Alberta biodiversity network. Click on the logo below to download the NatureLynx app (to take part in missions, you must have the app), find out more about what NatureLynx is and how it works. Take Part in Okotoks Missions!
Would you like to participate in the Town’s NatureLynx missions? Every year the Town offers various NatureLynx missions for residents to be involved in as citizen scientists. Some of the Town’s past missions include, migratory birds, and native wildflowers.
When you participate in the Town’s NatureLynx missions, you help with collecting valuable data for the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI). They use the data:
- to monitor the biodiversity of species in Alberta;
- to detect any significant changes in various species;
- and to develop long-term environmental strategies and decision making.
Missions During COVID-19 Pandemic
If you are not in quarantine, this is a great opportunity to spend some time outdoors to enjoy the natural beauty of Okotoks’. Physical distancing is important, and therefore we encourage you to complete these missions in your yard, parks and open spaces. If you are self-isolating you can still participate by capturing great images from your window and patio! Some missions provide opportunity for participants to win fun prizes!
