Service Alberta works to ensure a fair marketplace for both buyers and sellers. We investigate consumer complaints, enforce consumer protection legislation, license and register regulated businesses and charitable organizations. The department provides an appropriate regulatory framework and informs consumers and businesses of their rights and responsibilities. Consumer Awareness, Research and Education provide materials on a wide range of topics free of charge. The ministry's Consumer Contact Centre handles more than 230,000 phone inquiries from Albertans each year. The Centre provides information on dozens of topics including landlord/tenant disputes, making purchases over the Internet and lodging a consumer complaint.


Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council 1-877-979-8100

The Alberta Motor Vehicle Industry Council (AMVIC) is a non-profit society. It has been operating since 1999. 
AMVIC’s role is to regulate the motor vehicle industry in Alberta. This responsibility is delegated to AMVIC by the provincial government. The delegation agreement requires AMVIC to enforce the Fair Trading Act and regulations that apply to the automotive industry.


Alberta Funeral Services Regulatory Board 1-800-563-4652

The Alberta Funeral Services Regulatory Board was established on December 1, 1992 under the Licensing of Trades and Businesses Act and the Funeral Services Business Licensing Regulation. The board licenses funeral businesses, crematories, funeral directors, embalmers and pre-need salespeople. The board also sets educational standards, monitors performance standards and investigates consumer complaints.


Real Estate Council of Alberta 1-888-425-2754

Established in 1995, the Real Estate Council of Alberta is an independent, non-government agency, responsible for governing industry professionals in the real estate, mortgage broker, and real estate appraisal industries under Alberta’s Real Estate Act.


Alberta Insurance Council 403-233-2929

There are four Insurance Councils, The Alberta Insurance Council, the Insurance Adjusters' Council, the General Insurance Council and the Life Insurance Council. The Alberta Insurance Council is the financial arm of the councils and provides investigation and administrative services to the other councils. The Alberta Insurance Council also provides administrative services to the Continuing Education Accreditation Committee appointed by the Minister of Finance. The Alberta Insurance Council and the Ministry of Treasury Board and Finance work together to ensure consumers are protected and companies, insurance adjusters and insurance agents operate at the highest standards.


Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission 403-292-7300

A crown commercial enterprise, the Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission (AGLC) is an agent of the Government of Alberta and consists of a board and a Corporation. The AGLC Board develops policy, conducts hearings, and makes licensing and registration decisions to ensure that Alberta’s liquor and gaming industries are well regulated and well managed to benefit the people of the province. It also ensures the powers and duties of the AGLC are carried out. The AGLC’s role is to administer the Gaming and Liquor Act, Regulation and related policy. The AGLC is responsible for regulating Alberta’s charitable gaming activities and conducting and managing provincial gaming activities. It also controls the manufacture, importation, sale, purchase, possession, storage, transportation, use and consumption of liquor in Alberta.

Alberta Health Services are skilled and dedicated health professionals, support staff, volunteers and physicians who promote wellness and provide health care every day to approximately 3.8 million Albertans, as well as to many residents of southwestern Saskatchewan, southeastern British Columbia and the Northwest Territories. AHS has almost 100,000 employees, including approximately 91,500 direct AHS employees and approximately 7,900 staff working in AHS wholly-owned subsidiaries such as Carewest, CapitalCare Group and Calgary Laboratory Services (excluding Covenant Health staff), 16,800 volunteers and 8,020 physicians.
