What are “red carpet” initiatives?
The Town of Okotoks “red carpet” initiatives are designed to improve the ease of doing business in the Town of Okotoks by progressive policies, demonstrating a can-do attitude with alternative solutions and streamlined processes.
In Okotoks, we are continuing to develop programs that support businesses and improve the local business climate. The Food Truck and Patio Program are examples of how we are helping local businesses. We recently revised our Business License Bylaw and Fees to remove unnecessary barriers for businesses and to enhance service efficiencies.
Processes are being streamlined and simplified to help businesses open faster. The new Land-Use Bylaw simplifies business start-up approvals and provides more flexibility around definitions, regulations and signage.
Business licensing services are now provided online, and online permitting services are under development.
In addition, Community Growth and Investment acts as the businesses’ “One-Stop Shop” to walk business owners through the business licensing and permitting process. Finally, once a business is established, regular check-ins are conducted and businesses are assisted with any challenges they may face by putting them in touch with resources that meet their specific needs.
