In order to continue providing the highest standards of service to our residents, the Okotoks Fire Department will be undergoing new certification training for car seat installations. This will result in a temporary suspension of our free Car Seat Clinics for the months of February and March. We anticipate being able to offer the free car seat clinics again in the Spring – watch for our new schedule.
In the meantime, please take your vehicles to any Toys R Us store in Calgary for a free inspection. Their certified staff will be able to assist you on an appointment basis. The installation or inspection is offered to anyone regardless of where the car seat was originally purchased.
Thank you for your patience as the fire crews update their certification. We look forward to restarting the clinic in the spring.
Proper Car Seat Installation is important!
Your car seat is one of the most crucial pieces of safety equipment you’ll ever own. After all, you’re putting your most precious cargo in it. But is it installed correctly?
- Seat not tightly secured to the vehicle (moves more than 2.5 cm in any direction)
- Position of the shoulder straps
- Harness not snug
Transport Canada points out that every year about 10,000 children 12 or under are injured (some of them fatally) in traffic collisions in Canada and that surveys show that as many as one third of Canadian children are not properly restrained when they’re traveling in motor vehicles.
