What is a Land Use Bylaw?
  • The Land Use Bylaw regulates the use and development of land and buildings within the Town of Okotoks.
  • The Land Use Bylaw divides the Town into districts (or zones) that direct where residential, commercial, industrial and institutional uses may be located and the standards associated with their development.
  • The Land Use Bylaw is the guiding document for Council and staff when making decisions about land use and development, and is used to carry out the vision and policies of the Municipal Development Plan, which is the primary long range planning document that establishes a holistic vision and guides overall growth and development of the Town.
Why is the Town Rewriting the Land Use Bylaw?

The Land Use Bylaw requires updating to respond to current and future needs of Okotoks including policy direction from planning documents such as the Municipal Development Plan.

A robust consulting team has been assembled to prepare the new bylaw through a combination of best practices and technical research, public and stakeholder participation, and policy implementation.  Click button below to view the timeline.
