Town of Okotoks playgrounds will be re-opening May 27

May 25, 2020

OKOTOKS, AB: The Town of Okotoks is pleased to announce that Town and school playgrounds and outdoor fitness equipment will re-open starting Wednesday, May 27.  Residents have been doing a great job following public health orders to help flatten the curve and this step to move ahead carefully is an optimistic sign for the future.

The Town appreciates your patience as, prior to opening, all playground and fitness equipment will be inspected, new signage will be installed and closure tape will be removed.

It is important that anyone using playground and fitness equipment continue to maintain two metres of physical distance and sanitize their hands before and after touching playground equipment by carrying hand sanitizer with them. Those using these amenities must also comply with the outside gathering restrictions of a maximum of 50 people, or at a capacity that ensures physical distancing can be maintained. Parents are asked to ensure children know the rules and how to follow them. They are also encouraged to accompany their children to the playground the first time so they can demonstrate how to use the equipment safely, following Alberta Health Services directives.

Additional information:

  • Outdoor washroom facilities will not be re-opening at this time.
  • Municipalities are not required to clean or disinfect playground/fitness equipment.  Please be aware of risks, use proper hand hygiene, do not touch your face and do not share sports equipment or toys. More playground safety guidelines are available on the Town’s website.
  • The BMX Bike Club will also be reopening the BMX Track on May 27 with physical distancing protocols in place. This facility is managed by a volunteer board and the Town will work with them to ensure that Alberta Health directives are followed for the safety of everyone using the track.
