Refreshed Town website ready for public feedback

October 13, 2020

The Town of Okotoks is reaching the final stages of refreshing the Town’s official website and the community is invited to provide feedback on the user experience.

A link to the new beta site and a feedback form can be found at www2.okotoks.ca. The Town will be collecting input from the public until October 23, with the final transition to the refreshed site scheduled for November.

In 2019, the Town gathered feedback from the community on the state of the current website and it was clear improved navigation was the top priority.

The refreshed site includes:

  • a new menu structure, easy-to-find quick links from the home page, a prominent search feature, and popular content links in each main menu for an intuitive navigation. These site refinements are designed to help visitors find information easily and get them to the right content with less clicks.
  • reconfiguring the menus and pages of the website to be more logical for visitors.
  • substantially reducing the number of pages on the site and incorporating best practices for building an accessible website

The site continues to offer responsive design that adjusts to various device sizes, a searchable “mega menu” for streamlined navigation, and dynamic calendars.

A major component of the website refresh includes a required update to the content management system, as well as improving the site to meet all accessible compliant standards.

The Town’s website is a key source for all Town information regarding Council decisions, strategic plans, current events, regular Town services, and sustainable initiatives. Keeping it current with the latest technology, functionality and accessibility is essential to meet these objectives. These changes all contribute to a positive experience for visitors to Okotoks.ca, which receives over 1.2 million page views per year.
