Okotoks Firefighters responded to an early morning house fire at 21 Westland Gate, which destroyed one house. Despite strong winds, firefighters were able to contain the fire, minimizing damage to neighbouring homes.
Due to the danger posed by the winds, both Heritage Point and High River fire departments provided assistance in containing the fire.
The call was made at 4 a.m. and crews were on scene in less than 5 minutes.
“The fire started outside the home and was spotted by a passerby who alerted the homeowners and likely saved lives, as they were able to escape in time,” said Deputy Chief Danny Freeman.
Crews remained at the scene to secure the area and meet with the victims to ensure their safety and that they had local support.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
