Thank you to all the volunteers who joined us at the 13th Annual Charity Check Stop, December 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. on Milligan Drive at the Okotoks Recreation Centre. This year we successfully surpassed last year's donations with more than $8,900 raised and four pickup trucks worth of food for the Okotoks Food Bank and the Rowan House Emergency Shelter. Thank you to everyone who donated so generously.
Local emergency Services personnel, including Okotoks Municipal Enforcement, RCMP, Fire Department, and Foothills Victim Services were on hand with community volunteers to conduct a “check stop” to collect food, unwrapped toys and/or monetary donations from the travelling public for the Okotoks Food Bank and Rowan House.
These organizations provide a vital service to those less fortunate in our community and help brighten many people’s lives. Emergency Responders and Victim Services usually interact with people during negative events; the Charity Check is an opportunity to have a positive interaction with the public while helping to support those in need.
In 2018, the Charity Check Stop raised more than $6,000 and filled four pickup trucks with food for the Okotoks Food Bank and the Rowan House Emergency Shelter.
