Your phone has the power to save a life.
Alert Ready is designed to deliver critical and potentially life-saving alerts to Canadians through television, radio and compatible wireless devices connected to LTE networks. The Alert Ready system is developed in partnership with federal, provincial and territorial emergency management officials, Environment and Climate Change Canada, The Weather Network and the broadcasting industry and wireless service providers, to ensure you receive alerts immediately and know when to take action to keep yourself and your family safe.
TODAY at 1:55 PM, Canada’s Alert Ready service will broadcast a test alert across television, radio, and for the first time, compatible wireless devices.
The intent of this test is to validate all components of the system before an actual emergency. The test alert will display on compatible LTE devises accompanied by the emergency alert sound, unless the device is set to vibrate, silent or turned off. You can check to determine your cell phone’s compatibility at https://www.alertready.ca/index.html#wireless.
In order to help understand and evaluate the numbers of individuals who receive these alerts, a nation-wide survey has been created. Please take the time to complete the survey as your feedback is important to help improve the overall Alert Ready system: https://peasi.com/emergency-alert-test-survey.html.
The Alert ready system is a valuable way to reach people who live, work and visit the Town of Okotoks. However, no warning system replaces the need for individual, family and community preparedness. All Town of Okotoks residents and businesses are encouraged to have an emergency plan and a 72-hour kit to help you manage until emergency responders can reach you.
