Construction Projects & Notifications

The Town of Okotoks has many new construction and infrastructure projects.  This includes the completion of multi-phased projects started in previous years and the planning of new multi-phased projects that will enhance the Town’s roadways, utilities, buildings, and recreational parks and facilities. We know that construction can impact residents and businesses and we thank you for your patience while we complete this work.

Hodson Park Maintenance
Project Details

The Town has determined that the playground surfacing at Hodson Park, 102 Visser Way (click button below for image) is due to be replaced. The existing pea gravel surfacing will be removed and replaced with engineered wood fiber playground surfacing. The playground will need to be closed for this work to occur, and closure dates will be finalized when work is scheduled (all dates are weather permitting).  The playground will be closed for approximately 3-5 days during the work.

St. Mary's (Cimarron) and Laurie Boyd Bridge Repairs
Project Details

Please be advised of the following bridge repairs scheduled to start next week and take several days to complete.  Please follow all signage, construction personnel instruction and use caution in the work areas.

St. Mary’s Bridge (175 Cimarron Park Drive) – Bridge removal and replacement. Pedestrian traffic will be diverted to the west side of the site as shown in the image below.  Just south of the wooden bridge replacement,  some repairs will be made to the abutments on the new bridge.

Laurie Boyd Bridge – Bridge abutment repairs will be taking place on the Laurie Boyd bridge. The repairs will occur on both sides of the bridge; see image below; the bridge and pathway will remain open during the work.

Northridge Drive Urbanization Project

Lane Closure Between Northridge & Milligan Drives

Please be aware that rubberized pathway installation along Milligan Drive will occur over the next several days.  To complete the work, there will be a lane closure in place between Northridge Drive and Veterans Way (click button).  Please watch for and obey signage and use caution in the area.

Upcoming Traffic Pattern Change on Northridge Drive
Please be advised that there will be a traffic pattern change on Northridge Drive beginning  September 8.  Drivers will need to cross over the median near the Honda/Chevy dealerships where there will be two-way traffic northbound as shown in the image below (click button).  Please watch for traffic controls, signage, personnel, equipment & use caution in the area.  Thank you for your cooperation and patience.

Traffic Pattern Change

Southbound Lane Closure on Northridge Dr
Update:
As part of phase two of the Northridge Drive urbanization project, there will be a southbound lane closure on Northridge Drive.  This closure will begin August 20 and last approximately two weeks.  Please expect traffic disruptions, watch for signage, workers, equipment and use caution in the area.  The main alternate north/south route will be 32nd Street.

Phase two is expected to be complete later in the fall, weather permitting.  This phase will include constructing a new intersection north of Banister Gate and upgrading approximately 400m of Northridge Drive by developing a multi-use pathway, curb, gutter, underground stormwater infrastructure, landscaping, traffic signals and widening the road. See images of work area and designs below. This work is being done to support commercial development in the D’Arcy subdivision.

Phase 1

This construction, in support of the Town’s Active Transportation Strategy and Council’s strategic directions to provide quality infrastructure and promote active transportation, will link the pathway from Sandstone Gate to Banister Gate, and along Milligan Drive and Veterans Way. 

Northridge Drive Lane Closures for Crosswalk Painting
Please be aware that temporary lane closures for crosswalk line painting will occur at the intersection of Northridge Drive and Milligan Drive/D’Arcy Boulevard  (click button to see image below) from August 20-22.  The work will occur between 8pm-5am to alleviate traffic congestion on Northridge Drive.  Please watch for and obey signage and use caution in the area.  Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Other work including gravel placement, asphalt paving and landscaping will take place over the next few weeks and is expected to be complete in early September.   Construction activities will comply with the Town’s noise bylaw and dust control measures will be implemented.  Please expect temporary traffic disruption and pedestrian detours, watch for signage and use caution in the area.  Please click buttons below to see image of design, general work and pathway closure areas.

Riverside Park Parking Lot Expansion
Project Update

The Riverside Park parking lot is undergoing an expansion to improve the parking capacity within the Riverside Park area.  Work is scheduled to commence starting September 8 . 

Parking within the existing parking lot will not be impacted although the public will need to proceed cautiously around equipment working in the area.  The expanded parking area will remain closed to the public for the balance of 2020.  Additional amenities including landscaping, fencing, other natural features, etc. will be added into the expanded area in the spring 2021 and the area opened to the public.

AltaLink Maintenance Along Highway 7
Project Details

Please be advised that AltaLink will be completing maintenance on their power line infrastructure along the south boundary of Okotoks this summer/fall.  Watch for machinery working near power poles within the approximate area highlighted in the image below.  For more information, please use the ‘Contact us’ link at www.altalink.ca.

Project Update

Restoration/Landscaping

TELUS contractors will be back in Okotoks to finish restoration of landscaping (including hydroseeding {grass restoration} when conditions permit) in Spring 2020. TELUS is responsible for all remediation on this project and are required to restore areas disturbed by their work. Residents and business owners/operators are encouraged to contact the AFL Customer Care hotline (1-844-343-1222) for any issues or concerns they may have resulting from the 2018/2019 work.
