Earth Hour is a global event that encourages people and businesses to turn off unnecessary lights, appliances and electronic devices to help conserve power and raise awareness around environmental issues. . Earth Hour was famously started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia in 2007. Since then it has grown to engage more than 7,000 cities and towns worldwide, and the one-hour event continues to remain the key driver of the now larger movement.

Make Earth Hour fun and special for your family! Consider turning off every light, leaving your house in the dark or playing a board game at the kitchen table by candlelight. Use your imagination and you will see that there is lots of fun things to do in the dark!
- Take a nap! Catch up on some rest that over-attention to electronics has stolen from you lately.
- Take photos or a video of what you are doing. If lots of houses turned off their lights in your area, this could look amazing. If they haven't done so, consider challenging them next year!
- Once you are back online enter the Fortis Social Media Contest: Facebook and/or Twitter to win energy prizes!
