The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has a municipal contract with the Town of Okotoks. The RCMP is the Federal Police Force, contracted to do both Provincial and Municipal policing in province of Alberta.  The RCMP is responsible for enforcing the Criminal Code, Federal and Provincial Statutes.

The Okotoks RCMP Detachment currently provides 24 hrs policing. It consists of a Staff Sergeant, Sergeant, 3 Corporals, 17 Constables and 8 Support staff.  The Detachment has a General Investigation Section and Crime Reduction Unit consisting of three officers.  The Okotoks Detachment supports, and is involved in several community based programs to enhance community safety. Programs currently active in the community are; Victims Services, Auxiliary Constable, Citizen on Patrol, Rural Crime Watch, Drug Alcohol Resistence Education, and the Observer Program. 

Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks

The Okotoks RCMP detachment will provide Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector (VS) checks to local (Okotoks or De Winton) residents only. These checks are provided for various purposes such as: employment, adoption, international travel, volunteer work, citizenship, name change, student placement or to obtain a record suspension (formerly pardon).

In order to obtain a certified Criminal Record or Vulnerable Sector check, you will be required to follow certain steps and pay the associated fees. The fees for Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Checks are set out in the Town of Okotoks Fees, Rates and Charges Bylaw which is updated annually.

Please Note: all fees must be paid by exact cash only; there is no debit or credit payment option available at this time.

Criminal Record Checks take between one (1) to three (3) weeks to process and LiveScan (electronic fingerprinting) requests can take up to six (6) months for processing.

Applicants are required to produce two (2) pieces of valid ID:

  1. one must be photo ID with a local address (eg: Alberta Identification Card or driver’s license)
  2. the second can be an Alberta Personal Health Card, Social Insurance Number, Canada Passport, or Birth Certificate.
