Corix (EPCOR contractor) continues to complete the Town’s water meter installations and upgrades. Each installation takes approximately 30 minutes with a temporary water outage during the time. Corix employees are wearing Corix branded uniforms and identification.
Meter installation/retrofits take place Mondays - Fridays 8:00 am - 8:00 pm and Saturdays 9:00 am - 6:00 pm. The installer needs 36 inches of clear access to the water meter. Someone 18 years of age or older must be present during the installation.
Corix will advise each household via a letter sent through Canada Post advising of when they will in the area. Once the household is in receipt of the letter, they are instructed to contact Corix to book an appointment.
Approximately 8,400 residential and commercial properties throughout the Town will have their water meter replaced or upgraded. Implementation of the program will take about 1.5 years, with completion estimated for August 31, 2017. To date 4,167 water meters have been updated or installed; 520 meters have been exchanged; and 4,157 installations are left to be completed.
The Town of Okotoks initiated this comprehensive water meter replacement program to:
- Improve the efficiency of meter reading and water billing
- Increase the quality of customer service by eliminating the need for estimated bills
- provide a digital desktop, tablet and mobile platform for customers to see water usage in hourly increments creating real time water consumption awareness.
Although water meters have been read via radio frequency for more than 10 years in Okotoks, this process is to upgrade the current radios so they can be read remotely from a tower based system.
Communications, Finance, and EPCOR will be working with Sensus, a Toronto based company, over the next few months to develop and launch the online digital platform that will display personalized smart meter readings to Town of Okotoks utility customers. The consumer portal dashboard will provide the customer with billing cycle information and the system can also issue alerts for water restrictions or leak detections. The program will have a soft launch during the summer of 2017 to test and streamline the user experience. A hard launch will take place in the fall of 2017 to all 8,400 residential and commercial properties.
Please book your appointment with Corix, as soon as you are in receipt of the letter advising you they are in your neighbourhood.
