Trade Area

Okotoks is the regional centre of commercial activity with a trade area estimated at 250,000+ people. Okotoks is officially the largest trading area in Southern Alberta between Lethbridge, AB and Calgary, AB. The trade area includes Okotoks, South Calgary, High River, Black Diamond, Turner Valley, Municipal District of Foothills, Heritage Point, Vulcan, Nanton and rural areas of approximately 2,000 square kms. Trade area for tourism, industrial, retail and professional service businesses extends to Calgary (trade area: 1,000,000 people). Some of the larger retail stores have trading areas of 100,000 to 250,000 people (depending on what geography is included).

Highways, Air Services, Rail Services

Highways
Highway 2A runs into the Town of Okotoks. Highway 2A then transitions into Northridge & Southridge Drive. The Town is situated just 8 km west of Highway 2. Highway 7 forms the southern boundary of the Town, and runs south to the Town of High River, and west to the Towns of Turner Valley and Black Diamond. Highway 7 connects to Highway 2 via the Aldersyde overpass providing rapid access (5 minutes or 8 KM) into south Okotoks.

Air Services
Okotoks is the proud home of the Okotoks Air Ranch and Canada's first private air park community. Privately owned and operated, this Certified Airport has a 3,100 foot runway (paved in 1999) that is set in 32 acres of lush green space that runs through the neighbourhood. The runway places you on the doorstep from the moment you touch down. The nearest commercial air service is provided at the Calgary International Airport, located 64 km north of Okotoks. The nearest air freight facilities are also at Calgary International Airport. Transport Canada classifies the Okotoks Air Ranch as a certified airport/registered aerodrome. Located at Latitude: N50 44' 07" and Longitude W113 56' 05" AV Gass 100LL Aircraft parking and storage tie-down and plug-in facilities. Two commercial firms are located at the Airport.

Rail Services
The Canadian Pacific Railway's Secondary Main Line runs through Okotoks. Spur track potential (not installed) is limited to the BurnsWest Industrial lands in the Southbank Business Park (Southeast Okotoks) or nearby about 7 minutes South of Okotoks near Cargill off of Highway 2A.
