Commuting to Calgary

Location
Okotoks is situated only 18 kms to the Calgary City Limits and 64 kms to the Calgary International Airport and with our close proximity to Calgary, many residents and visitors travel daily into Calgary.

Traffic Advisories, Traffic Cameras & Roadwork Information
The City of Calgary's Transportation Planning Department operates an online Traveller Information System, which is used to inform drivers of potential problems they might encounter on their trips around the city.

Listed on their webpage are roadwork and lane closures, travel notices (such as speed restrictions due to construction) as well as accidents during the peak commuting hours.  Viewers can also view online images from traffic cameras placed around the city.

Commuters and visitors from Okotoks can view the site at www.calgary.ca/trafficinfo and from there you can select all traffic advisories, traffic cameras, or simply roadwork or major delays.

This is a valuable service to citizens of Okotoks who travel to Calgary for commuting, recreation, or even just passing through.  The Traveller Information service provides citizens with the information they need to make better travel decisions.

Carpooling to Calgary

Trans Canada Carpool.ca created the website http://www.carpool.ca/About.aspx to assist in the formation and management of carpools. Carpooling is not only enviornmentally conscious but it also saves money on gas and parking fees.   The Carpool.ca application uses home & destination locations, driving route and other personal information to help commuters identify potential carpool partners. The system is fast, secure and simple to use.

Carpool.ca offers these services to commuters in partnership with employers, post-secondary institutions, and regional governments. Partners pay an annual subscription fee that includes a menu of services. The program is hosted, managed and updated by Carpool.ca staff. There is no cost to commuters using this service. Partners have access to their data and have the option of generating administrative and statistical reports.
