To celebrate the start of construction, a ground-breaking ceremony was held on the acquired parcel of land near the junction of Highway 7 and the Aldersyde overpass on Thursday, July 12.

The multi-purpose facility is a joint development of recreational facilities between the MD of Foothills and the Town of Okotoks that is anticipated to take approximately 15 months to compete.

Representatives from the MD of Foothills and the Town of Okotoks Councils attended to celebrate the beginning of this new and exciting project

Background

Foothills-Okotoks Regional Indoor Field House Design Build Contract Awarded to Scott Builders Inc. The MD of Foothills and Town of Okotoks Councils have entered into agreement with Scott Builders Inc. for a design/build contract for the Foothills-Okotoks Field House project. The multi-purpose facility will be located near the junction of Highway 7 and the Aldersyde overpass.

The Foothills-Okotoks Field House will include the following key components:

  1. 4 playing fields each 85 ft x 200 ft
  2. training area with locker rooms and team rooms
  3. administrative offices, meeting & multi‐purpose rooms
  4. a walking/running track
  5. construction and installation of roads and utilities to service the site

This flexible indoor facility will meet the needs of children, youths and adults in the community and will be sustainable in terms of business and market opportunities. Construction is anticipated to commence in mid July with substantial completion by September 2013.

In August 2010 the MD of Foothills and Town of Okotoks with the assistance of JR Huggett Co., selected a design- build construction approach to manage the Foothills-Okotoks Field House project. Twelve proposals were received, with 4 design teams short listed for the request for proposal phase and Scott Builders Inc. was selected.
