Curbside Recycling for just $9.00 a month!
The Town introduced a new optional weekly curbside collection service for single family households in 2009. This is a subscription based service which you choose to sign up for.

The monthly fee for weekly curbside collection is $9. The collection fee will be added to your bi-monthly Town utility bill.
 
Within the Curb It! Program, each subscribing home will receive two 18 gallon (approx. 68 litre) recycling bins with bin bonnets (to protect from wind and rain) for weekly collection. Your bins will be collected from your front curb on your regular garbage day.

Please Note: bins will not be picked up from any back alleys.
Collection is on garbage days between the hours of 8am and 9pm.

What goes in the bins?

The Blue Bin:
  • newspapers
  • office paper
  • mixed paper & magazines
  • cardboard/ boxboard
  • paper coffee cups
The Red Bin:
  • clear & coloured glass
  • tin and metal
  • plastics #1-7
  • refundables (bottles, cans & tetrapaks)

Items that cannot be recycled will remain in your bin after collection with the attached information sheet explaining why your item was left behind. Recycling Notice (63 KB) Adobe

Please Note: The Town of Okotoks does not refund container recycling deposit levies on recyclables.
How to Sign Up
To sign up for service, please download and print the Curbside Recycling Collection Subscription Form For Single Family Homes. Please read all of the Terms and Conditions throughly and complete the form. The form must be signed by the owner of the property to qualify for the program.
 

Program Instructions
  • When you first subscribe to the program, your Curb It bins will be delivered to your home within a week.
  • Please allow several days for administration after your subscription form has been submitted.
  • Your first collection day will occur the following week after your have received your bins.
  • The $9 monthly Curb It fee will begin after your first collection.
  • Please send your completed form to the Utilities Clerk at the Town of Okotoks' Municipal Centre.

Your Bins and Collection Day
Once you have subscribed to the program by submitting your Subscription Form to the Municipal Centre, a Curb It! Kit will be delivered to your home.

The Curb It! Kit Includes:
  • 1 blue bin with contents sticker
  • 1 red bin with contents sticker
  • 2 bin bonnets
  • Information Materials
Your curbside recycling collection day will be the same as your current garbage collection day.
When you first subscribe to the program, your Curb It bins will be delivered to your home within a week. Please allow several days for administration after your subscription form has been submitted. Your first collection day will occur the following week after your have received your bins. The $9 monthly Curb It fee will begin after your first collection. Your bins will be collected from the front curb and will not be picked up if they are left in the back alley.

Exceeding your weekly capacity of your Curb It recycling bins?
Curb It will provide a free additional set of Curb It bins to subscribers who regularly exceed the weekly capacity of their recycling bins. To order a second set of bins, please download and fill out this form and return to the Municipal Centre for processing.  Your extra set of bins will be delivered to your household within 5 business days after the subscription form has been submitted to the Town.

Eligibility for Curbside Service
Please note this curbside collection service is only for Single Family Homes that currently receive the Town's curbside refuse service. Multi-family complexes (townhomes, apartments, condominiums) who receive refuse collection from private companies are not eligible at this time for this collection program.

The Curbside Recycling Collection Subscription Form must be signed by the home's property owner. Renters may request that their landlord register their residence for the program however the fees will be added to the owner's bi-monthly Town utility bill. This arrangement must be worked out between renters and their landlords. If renters or other residents wish to sign up for a private curbside collection service, these services are offered through many different private recycling companies in Okotoks.
