Voter Info

  • Across Alberta general municipal elections are now held every four years for Mayors, Councillors and School Board Trustees pursuant to the Alberta Local Authorities Election Act (LAEA).
  • There is one Mayor and 6 Councillors for Okotoks.
  • The Municipal Election will be held on Monday, October 21, 2013.
  • The 2013 Election will be held at two Voting Stations, the Foothills Centennial Centre and the Okotoks Recreation Centre and open from 6 am to 8 pm on Election Day.
  • An Advance Vote for the 2013 Election was held Saturday, October 5, 2013 from 9 am to 1 pm and a second one will be held on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 from 5 pm to 8 pm at the Municipal Centre, Council Chamber, at 5 Elizabeth Street.
  • The Returning Officer will attend the home of incapacitated electors to provide them the opportunity to vote on the same days and times of Advance Vote or Election Day. The Returning Officer will also designate institutional voting locations within Okotoks.

To vote in the 2013 Municipal Election you must be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • 18 years of age or older
  • a resident of Alberta for 6 consecutive months immediately preceding Election Day
  • a resident of Okotoks on Election Day

Voter Identification Requirements

Driver License

In order to vote, you must produce identification for inspection. The identification must be one of the following, as required by Section 53 of the Local Authorities Election Act:

a) one piece of photo identification with name and current address issued by a Canadian government (federal, provincial, local, or an agency thereof) e.g.: Alberta Operator’s (Driver’s) License or government issued identification card;

or

b) one piece of identification authorized by the Chief Electoral Officer under the Election Act that establishes name and current address, as listed below:

  • Attestation of residence issued by the authorized representative (landlord) of a commercial property management company
  • testation of identity and residence issued by the authorized representative of a correctional institution
  • Attestation of residence issued by the authorized representative of a First Nations band or reserve
  • Attestation of residence issued by the authorized representative of a post-secondary institution
  • Attestation of identity and residence issued by the authorized representative of a shelter or soup kitchen
  • Attestation of identity and residence issued by the authorized representative of a supportive living facility or treatment center
  • Bank/credit card statement or personal cheque
  • Correspondence issued by a school, college or university
  • Government cheque or cheque stub
  • Income/property tax assessment notice
  • Insurance policy or coverage card
  • Letter from a public curator, public guardian or public trustee
  • Pension Plan statement of benefits, contributions or participation

  • Residential lease or mortgage statement
  • Statement of government benefits: e.g.: employment insurance, old-age security, social assistance, disability support, or child tax benefit
  • Utility bill: e.g.: telephone, public utilities commission, television, hydro, gas or water
  • Vehicle ownership, registration or insurance certificate
