32nd St. Bridge Progress – September 15, 2010

Sheep River Bridge

Railings are installed and approach slabs are complete. Overhang safety supports are being stripped and final painting is on going. The bridge is expected to be complete in it's entirety on or about the first week of October.

CPR Bridge

River Relocation Work

The river relocation work is complete. The new river north guide banks are under construction as well as restoration of the slopes in the old river channel.

Earthworks

The remaining north embankment filling operation in the old river channel is now complete.

Surface Work

Storm sewer installations in the new embankment are underway. Concrete and asphalt paving of the remaining north embankment is scheduled over the next few weeks. Pathway paving, guard rail installations, misc. fencing, and streetlight installations are scheduled for this Fall.

Landscaping Work

Landscaping in the area along 32 Street between North Railway and Stockton is currently underway. Landscaping is also underway within the areas between the CPR bridge and Sheep River bridge. Seeding is for the most part completed and tree planting beds are currently under construction. The majority of the landscaping work will commence this Fall after the roadworks (curb and asphalt) are completed.

 
32nd St. Bridge Progress - August 31, 2010
 
As part of the river relocation work for the new bridge, consultants were required to salvage, rescue and relocate the trapped fish in the old river channel and relocate them to the new river location.  The fish salvage occured over the course of an 8 day period and the length of the abandoned channel was +/- 500m. A total of 12,888 fish were salvaged.

Sheep River Bridge

All main bridge deck pours are now complete. The final bridge deck paving is commencing August 7. Approach slabs, railing installations, and misc. bridge painting are scheduled for final completion around August 23.

CPR Bridge

Final bridge deck paving, railing installations, and approach slabs are scheduled to be completed around the first week of September.

River Relocation Work

The new river channel excavation for the Sheep River is complete. Preliminary work has begun to start moving over the river to the new channel. The river is anticipated to be re-located to it's new location by around August 23.

Earthworks

The remaining north embankment work (area where the current location of the Sheep River is today) is expected to commence on our about August 23 after the river has been successfully relocated to it's new location.

Surface Work

The new northbound lanes on 32 Street north of North Railway St. are now paved c/w top lift asphalt and line painting. Surface work (concrete) has begun on the south embankment (area between the CPR tracks and Southbank Road) as well as the mid embankment (area between the CPR bridge and Sheep River bridge).

Landscaping Work

Landscaping is underway within the areas between the CPR bridge and Sheep River bridge. Seeding is completed and tree planting beds are currently being completed. The majority of the landscaping work will commence later this summer once the roadworks (curb and asphalt) is completed.

32nd St. Bridge Progress – July 2, 2010

Overall construction remains on schedule.

Sheep River Bridge

All main bridge deck pours are now complete. Railings and bridge approach slabs are expected to be completed +/- mid July. Asphalt paving of the final bridge deck surface expected to be done +/- July 21, 2010. Misc. final painting of the bridge is on going.

CPR Bridge

Bridge girders were erected June 28th and June 29th. Bridge deck concrete slab work is now underway.

River Relocation Work

Channel excavation for the new Sheep River location is underway. The physical river diversion is expected to commence after July 15 with the river to be completely relocated under the new Sheep River bridge by August 1.

Earthworks

The north embankment work (between North Railway St. and the existing Sheep River) is complete. The remaining north embankment work (area where the current location of the Sheep River is today) is expected to commence on our about August 1 after the river has been successfully relocated to it's new location.

Surface Work

The new northbound lanes on 32 Street north of North Railway St. are now paved. Final / Top lift paving of these lanes and this intersection is expected to be completed in the next couple of weeks. Surface work (concrete) has begun on the south embankment (area between the CPR tracks and Southbank Road) as well as the mid embankment (area between the CPR bridge and Sheep River bridge).

Landscaping Work

Landscaping is underway within the areas between the CPR bridge and Sheep River bridge. Seeding is completed and tree planting beds are currently being completed. The majority of the landscaping work will commence later this summer once the roadworks (curb and asphalt) is completed.

 
32nd St. Bridge Progress – June 4, 2010

Overall construction overall remains on schedule.

Sheep River Bridge

Bridge deck concrete pours are currently underway. It is expected that the entire deck will be poured and ready for asphalt for early July. Painting and final finishes of the bridge piers and abutments is underway complete with river rip rap armoring under the bridge along the future river location.

CPR Bridge

The final concrete pours are underway on both piers. Girders are expected to be erected starting +/- June 10.

River Relocation Work

Channel excavation for the new Sheep River location is expected to start +/- June 10.

Earthworks

The south embankment (south of the CPR tracks is complete). The centre embankment (zone between the CPR and Sheep River) is complete. The north embankment work (between North Railway St. and the existing Sheep River) is complete with the exception of utility installations which will be starting +/- June 9. The remaining embankment work will be completed once the river has been relocated. This work is expected to start later in August.

Surface Work

The new northbound lanes on 32 Street north of North Railway St. are now paved. Preliminary surface work has begun on the south embankment between the CPR tracks and Southbank Road. Surface work for the mid embankment will commence later this Spring.

Landscaping Work

Landscaping is expected to start mid June and will commence in the area between the CPR and Sheep River bridge structures first. Landscaping will commence on the balance of the project later in the Summer and early Fall.

32nd Street Bridge Progress – May 14, 2010

Although there was a slight delay due to some April / May snow storms, construction overall remains on schedule.

Sheep River Bridge
All the pre-cast bridge deck panels are now into place. Work is underway on the bridge deck and bridge deck overhangs. The concrete bridge deck pour is scheduled for early June.
 
CPR Bridge
Both the south and north abutments are ready for girders. Both piers are currently being formed and expected to be poured in the next few weeks. Girders are anticipated to be placed in early June.
 
River Relocation Work
Our River Relocation work scope is currently out for Tender. The ultimate river relocation dirt work will commence later this Summer.

Earthworks
The south embankment (south of the CPR tracks is complete). The centre embankment (zone between the CPR and Sheep River) is complete. The north embankment work is underway and the portion between North Railway St. and the existing Sheep River is expected to be complete within the next week.

Surface Work
Surface work is underway. The new northbound lanes on 32 Street north of North Railway St. are graveled and ready for concrete curbs. The first base lift of asphalt is expected to be placed in the next few weeks within this section. Preliminary surface work has begun on the south embankment between the CPR tracks and Southbank Road. Surface work for the mid embankment will commence later this Spring.
